weak power steering&brakes

weak power steering&brakes

ive only had my 01 for a month now but it just realy seems that my power steering and brakes are about half of what they are supposed to be does any have a clue what might be wrong. Ive had the ball joints replaced one new wheel bearing and an allingment but the steering is still really tight and stiff, tight not in a good way theirs no play. my brakes are in good shape just dont have the stoping power they should what do i need to do. THANKS

It could be that your power steering pump may be getting weak. Mine did exactly the same as yours. It cost me about $900 to have it replaced and flushed at Pep Boys. Your power steering pump also powers your brakes since your diesel doesn't produce the vacuum like the gas engines will.

There are far less expensive pump repairs if you will research threads.
Question? does it steer and brake adequatelly when on road.

yeah it everything works adequatelly just not like you would think it should im not sure its the steering pump it just seem that my steering is really tight is there away to test the steering pump instead of replacing it to see if thats the problem

Dealer has a test tool that is installed in line and checks both pressure and flow of pump for both steering and brakes.

I've had good look with a synthetic PS fluid in the reservoir. It did away with my cold-start squeal, and made the steering easier.

The combination of a premium synthetic PS fluid and LubeGard PS additive has been a winner for me!
