Want to paint my truck
After going through some of the heat of this Summer, I'm wanting to paint my truck white from green. I'm wondering how much of a pain this would be, and about how much you guys think it might cost? It's a long bed 99. Any help would be appreciated.

Jack
Re:Want to paint my truck
I have a white truck, a black Trans-AM and a black Monte Carlo SS. I think those have to be two of the hardest colors in the world to keep clean--the black shows everything and the white is about as bad but I love it!!! I have seen paint colors changed and depending on the expertise of the person doing it..the ones I've seen were near perfect. I dont know the cost but I would imagine it would be lots more expensive than a regular paint job. Perhaps a body specialist will chime in here and help.

A friend of mine had his V-10 painted that forest green that are on the Pontiac Firebirds. It was done very well. The truck's original color was black. It ran him just over $1500 and it looked great. The extra cost is for stripping the interior and matching the door jambs and under the hood.
It was done in the Colorado Springs area, can't remember the guy's name. I imagine that's a pretty decent figure for the job, though.
Hope it helps.
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Jack, are you planning on doing all the work yourself? If you are then that is another game and there some things to do and not to do.

I would ruin it.

I'm sick of green and I don't want to get rid of the truck so what better way than to paint it white? PLUS, the heat out here is bad right now, and I'm more inclined to do it in the Summer. I don't think that's a bad price. I would definately do it for 1500

I don't know about 1500 :
I paid 3k to have mine done and it looks perfect. even beter than when it was new. You get what you pay for comes to minde and since the paint itself was Pretty $$$ I don't think who ever charges that will be makeing much money. but what do I know. I have never priced the stukk I just know that I priced around 5 places and this guy was the cheapest BUT also was well known for his work as he paints tractors race cars and runs a full body shop on the side. I love the way my truck looks now.
DM01

Repainting mine is costing $1500.00 and that is going the same color. 8) well almost I am going much glossier and wetter looking on the black but I don't have to paint the jambs and under the hood as they will still be black and the change will be subtle enough. I would think if you were painting all the other tedious stuff like the jambs and under the hood, firewall, front of the bed, back of the cab, and all the other spots you havent realized it is going to be alot more!

3000.00 sounds reasonable to me...

James

I priced having my 1500 two toned with the middle done in silver, like some of the 94 & 95s I 've seen. The place I was talking to wanted $1200. Going to a two tone option with the green as one of them may be cheaper because of not having to repaint the door jambs.

Jack,
Dirt and dust do not show up as much on silver as on white (I've had white and now have silver), the sun & heat reflect much better from silver than white, and silver isn't even close to green.
I called a friend who is a semi-retired body/fender and paint man. He says that if he still had his shop, to go from a darker to a lighter color, get all the door sills and jambs, around the edges of the tailgate and finishing with a good clear-coat would be $3000 to $3500. When changing colors like that he would remove all lights, mirrors, trim, bumpers, the doors and tail gate and the tires and wheels. As part of the job he would go over the fender liners, mirrors, tires, etc. with Back to Black.
Your part of the country may be more or less but he said if you figured $3500 you should be pretty close.

Re:Want to paint my truck
I have owned both white and black vehicles. Both are a super pain to keep clean with black being the worse by far. This is my third almond vehicle and I find that it does not show the dirt plus is not that hot in the sun. As long as I use a sun shield inside the windshield when I park in the sun the cab is never that hot. A couple of minutes with the A/C on high and we are comfortable.
