VIN decoding??
VIN decoding??
I'm using the '94-'02 VIN decoding chart from dodgeram.org. Has anyone else noticed that there are '02 trucks with a "C" in the 8th digit instead of 6 or 7? According to the chart, that's a '94-'97 engine code. I'm searching for '01-'02 used trucks all over TX and only want the 6speed HO, so the VIN 8th # is an easy check.
In my manual (1999), the only mention of transmission type seems to be a 3 letter code on the Body Code Plate.
The 8th digit only refers to Engine type, with "6" being the 24 valve CTD.
It mentions that the tranny code is found in the 13th,14th, & 15th digits of line 4.
They must have changed it in the later years.
DGP=47RE
DGT=46RE
DGK=42RE
DDP=NVG-4500 (5 SPD)
DDX=NVG-4500 (5 SPD) Heavy-Duty
DDC=NVG-3500 (5 SPD)
DEE=NVG-5600 (6 SPD)
