Used truck advise

Not for me but I have a buddy that is looking at a 1999.

2500 4x4
Quad Cab Long box
Cummins 5 speed
has 230,000 miles on it

Wondering what all your opinions are on this. I know their was some problems with the 5 speed, were they fixed by 1999? Either way I would think the problem would have showed up by 230,000 miles. I know some of the trucks had some weird steering things back then, have a 2000 that is that way.

What about the 230,000 miles?

He can pick it up for $9,000.00 I guess,

Re:Used truck advise

Go for it!! 230,000 miles is a baby.

Test drive it. I mean REALLY test drive it for clutch/shifting problems. Up hills down hills, take off, sudden drops in RPM; then accelerate, clutch slipping, ETC, ETC. Ask for receipts on any repair done to it. If you don't know trannys well, than ask the seller if you can get it checked out at a mechanic ( If you trust one )

With the 1999 problem; it is really luck of the draw. With 230,000 miles; I wouldn't worry.
