Trans temp guage? help
Are mechanical trans gauges even made any more?
Your question is confusing, not sure what you're asking.
Mechanical has a tube, electrical has wires and a sender.
They both hook up to the same place on the tranny and the gauge on the other end.

sorry if it's confusing. but yes they still make mech trans gauges. but i am looking at installing a trans temp gauge, the electrical guage has a 90* sweep on it and the mech has a 270* sweep, i like the 90* sweep the elect. gauge has. my main ? is whats the differnece in hooking up an elect. gauge as compared to a mech. gauge since the elect. gauge has wires and a sender
I don't know if I'd really believe in a "true" mechanical gauge with tubing up to the gauge, do they actually do that for temp, pressure yes but temp?
Auto Meter 4451 Ultra-Lite Mechanical Trans Temperature Gauge
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00062YXSW
Snip
Includes 1/2'' NPT adapter fitting with 8 feet tubing or wiring harness
I have a mechanical gauge like the one listed and it's an electrical sending unit to a mechanical sweep gauge, not a digital readout.
Is that our confusion, a mechanical sweep vs digital readout?
**edit**
reread your last post and infidel had already answered your question. They both install to the same location, test port, hotline or pan. Some newer trucks can use the odb test plug for gauge install but not on our 2nd gens that I've seen.

ok this is the electrical short sweep gauge

that is the one i want
this is the mech. gauge
http://autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail...id=3184&sid=11
but let me clarify my ? in a better way, both gauges hook up at the same place, what does the sender do? is that something you would have to hook up? where would you hook it up to?
read the notes on both pages to help understand better

From the sending unit you have a blue wire (transmitting temp data) to the back of the gauge. On the back of the gauge you attach the blue wire and a ground. Nothing more. The hard part is getting the sending unit into the hot line or into a pan. I wouldn't trust the test port on the side of the trans.
Trans is the bottom on the pillar
