Tires 10 Ply or 8 Ply

Shopping for new tires 315/70/17 I would like to go to an all terrain tire but I'm only finding them in 8 Ply, well almost found Toyo's but not sure I want to put out the money.

My question is can I use an 8 Ply? My main concern is when I have my camper on not sure how well the 8 Ply will hold up.

Any one running 8 Ply that hauls heavy loads on occasion?

If you're putting 800 lbs or more in the bed it would be wise to use 10 ply.
I run 10 ply Toyo HT.

The more ply's, the better. Of course. But, I run an 8 ply on mine, and frequently haul heavy loads of ceramic tile (a ton or more), and have had no issues with mine, no squatting or swaying, and I have no complaints.

Discount Tire price matches web prices. My Yokohama Geolanders stay balanced better than any tire I've owned. Run 65# of pressure all around. 30,000 mi & they show very little wear. I expect another 30-40k easily. Wish the rest of the truck were as reliable.

I know I should go with the 10 Ply. I just want to get away from the aggresive tread and having a hard time finding an AT in a 10Ply.

If you don't want aggressive threads you should be looking at HT tires, not AT.
I ran AT tires until a couple of years ago, what a difference switching to HT.
So much quieter and smoother ride, probably gained a little mpgs too.
I have all my tires siped and have had no traction problems with the HTs on ice and snow.

My local tire dealer charges $10 each for new tires, $12 for used.
Used tires cost more because they have to remove any rocks stuck in the treads that might damage their machine.

I should have said a mud tread, I still want some traction. I decided on the Toyo AT.

10 plies

in the BFG KM2 Mud terrains.. excellent traction, infact too good in the sand, it digs right away, killer in the mud, only con is its loud on the expressway...

and with 3000 lbs in the bed every now and then (once a month) for a 20-40 mile haul..

no problem

15K on them with rotations every 5 k miles, and they still look decent

My first set of tires after the stockers wore out was Toyo ATs.
They were a bit loud but I still got about 50k miles out of them.
Get them siped if you can and they'll last longer and get better traction.

I figured I couldn't go wrong with Toyo's. I hadn't thought about getting them siped. I think I will give it a try.
