tire question

I have almost new Pathfinder A/T on the front. Back tires are different brand and are in need of replacement. I went to Discount tire (they used to sell pathfinders) and was told that they are no longer made. I tried finding another 2 online with no luck.
Sales guy at Discount told me he can get me Good Year Wrangler Pro which are much more expensive (over $500 for 2 of them installed). He said they would match thread design of Pathfinders....
Personally I want to go with 2 of Cooper Discoverer ATS
What do you guys think? I really don't want to buy 4 brand new tires as I can't afford them.

Tire salesman said something about threads not matching and on 4WD you have to have 4 matching tires. I don't know if it would make much difference?

I don't know about thatone about tread matching.

Goodyear wranglers are soft and you'd be lucky to get 20 K out of them.

Call Les Schwab's. They always have take offs and stuff laying around.

True all wheel drive cars need to match in size. Trucks its not as big of deal if the sizes are alittle different as you will most likely be running in 4x4 under slip conditions. Tread pattern does not really matter either way as long as its similar( I wouldn't run an A/T with an M/t)

Thanks for explaining. I think it matters more on AWD cars like Subarus, DSM, etc.

yes your right on the AWD cars our trucks have more room. I see trucks with bald rear tires and good fronts all the time some one is trying to stimulate
the economy with your wallet
as long as there the same size your good

Make sure the actual sizes of the tires need to match, ex. don't run 285's on the front and put 265's on the back. Other than that, I got nothing else much to say. You have to buy what you can afford.

I stay away from schwab's. They screwed me before after I've spent $100's with them. They wouldn't repair slow tire leak, blamed it on wheel. I took same wheel to Discount and they fixed it FREE.

I did, sorry looking for something local. Shipping would kill me and I would have hard time finding someone who will mount and warranty them for me

i looked at shipping,it would be around 95,00 for 4 tires, most stores or service stations would mount them, you just have to keep track of your rotations, for warranty reasons, they offer a 2ty 24,000mi warranty,i purchased a set of 285/70/17 bfg a/t tread, for under 500.00 delivered, just thought id throw that at you,but thats cool if your not interested,i just like to let people know about it cuz it can save you lots of money.

I looked it up and it says tires get re-threaded, is that right?

major misconception, just as many of those treads are from manufactured tires as well as retread studies have shown the culperet to those blown tires is underinflation, and overloading, not being retread.
