Sway Bar Question

We just recently purchased a 1997 1500. the previous owner hit something and i thought it only dented the bumper but crawling under the truck today, i saw that the sway bar is also bent that it is hitting the axle on the sides. My question is, can i take the sway bar off and still be able to drive my truck. and also is it worth getting it pressed and straightened, or is a new one gonna be cheaper?

I took mine off almost 2 years ago, and haven't had any problems.

This is a 2500 though, with heavy springs and not much body roll at all.

A 1500 might be totally different, with the much lighter springs.

I'm tempted to say a new one, or at least a junkyard rescue will probalby be cheaper and better in the long run.

Once metal has been bent, then restraightened, it isn't as strong as it used to be.
