suspension overhaul, re-spring for no load + bags?
suspension overhaul, re-spring for no load + bags?
Anyone out there taken a ram and replaced the springs / leafs and shocks to allow for more travel and a softer ride so the shocks can actually get a chance to do their job?
I drive mine mostly with an empty load and its breaking things off the truck it hits so hard.
Im thinking a combo of lower rate springs / leafs and airbags would do the trick but im curious if anyone has already gone this route and has advice.

hi
i have the stock springs with air bags and ranchero air adjustable shocks and i can tell when the shocks get low on air psi .
with no load i only put 18 lbs of air in the bags and 150 in the shocks , gives the ride i like ??
if you are still running the original shocks they are surely shot!!!!!!
new QUALITY shocks would help big time !

I tried rancho RSX9000's with the stock suspension, and now bilstein 5100's with skyjacker D25's up front and im still having problems.
for example.. I was doing a fast take-off and I hit a pothole and wound up in the lane next to me. not sure if that was the suspension bouncing or axle wrap.
But I have had the truck stumble towards the outside of a bumpy corner. It doesnt soak up anything
The suspension is scary and unpredictable when you need to do something in a hurry =(

I have given a little thought to using half ton springs for better ride unloaded and add air bags for load control. I actually had a relatively low mileage Monroe shock come apart recently while hauling another truck on a trailer. Had 10K added to mine and it road well loaded.
I am interested in following this thread further.

I have 1 ton springs on my 3/4 ton, and it has the overload springs taken out. the other only thing i have is the cheap rancho shocks, and it rides smoother than my 1/2 ton did. it sucks b/c when i try to haul something heavy i almost bottom out, i need airbags
