Stupid Question/Fuel Filter Change Virgin

Hi all,

I need to change my fuel filter. It's starting to hesitate. I run B99 on a regular basis and have never changed the filter since I've owned it. It's a 99'
If I open the drain valve is that just water(and a little fuel) seperated out or is that fuel and all? I have the Chilton manual and think I can do this but any tips would be great. Thanks.

you have a 99 running b99 and never changed the filter? I am surprised that it runs at all. Just find a socket to fit the top of the filter and spin it off, take out the old filter, clean housing out if it is filthy, drop in new filter, and reverse directions to install. Bleed air from system and check for leaks.

Maybe hes only owned the truck for a few months? He never said he was the first owner.

You gave incorrect instructions for a 99.

The correct instructions are here:

When you need assistance and do not know how to proceed, the question is not stupid. It is very smart to ask for help. And sometimes very expensive if you don't.

If it has been along time between changes you should clean/change the fuel screen that is in the fuel heater assembly too.

interesting instructions, but..

I've change my filter a few times, but I've never needed to remove the water sensor..
never lubed the new filter
never pre filled the canister. not sure how this would be done without making a mess. just use the lift pump to fill and bleed the air out.

oh I own a 99..and use B100 most of the time

you might want to get a couple of filters
if you don't already have on..a fuel pressure gauge.

I used Napa Gold which are Wix with no problem for over 200k miles on each of my trucks until a friend gave me a case of Fleetguards when he bought a Duramax.
So I guess they must work
