Steering Wheel Wear

Steering Wheel Wear
I'm not sure if this has been brought up here or not but is there any good solution out there for when the leather stuff on the steering wheel starts to wear out? I can't stand those steering wheel covers and a new one from Dodge is going to be really expensive. Just curious if anybody else has found a good solution.

I have a well fitted black slip over one that I hated at first, but actually have forgotten about. My wheel wasn't worn out, but kinda slippery in the winter so I got this to try out and I like it now.
You may look at Wheelskins to see if they have anything new, I haven't noticed since I haven't had one since the late 80's. Thay are leather and fit pretty well IIRC.

My steering wheel was starting to show minor signs of wear and I didn't care to have it get real bad before I did anything. I got one of those real leather covers that you literally strain your gut and pinch your fingers trying to get it over the steering wheel. Definitely makes for a larger steering wheel but I have come to love it. Its hard to tell its even there too.

Believe it or not my oldman cleans it real well then varnishes it. Lets it sry then hits it with 220 grit or something finer then gives another coat and it comes out great. He has been doing that to all his dodges since 88 or 89.

hi
just go to the nearest jy and look for a used one in good condition .
my leather one was shot so i got a vinal one from a dacoda pick up , also durangos have the same thing !
easy to find a replacement .
you need a puller to get it off , a cheep one will work .

Beware of using citrus degreasers on the steering wheel, it eats them right up!!!
The dealer found out the hard way when one of their so called mechanics test drove my truck under warranty with greasy hands then tried to clean up his mess with citrus.

First sand, then get dye to match the wheel color, then coat with the preservative. I can still see the patched places but I have to look to find them.
Google for saddle leather repair
