amp gauge issues? maybe?

Hi,
I have a 1998 dodge 2500 cummins diesel. When my truck is cold, the amp gauge will slowly go down, and then go back to normal and it briefly drags the motor down when it does this. But once the truck reaches running temperature it is fine. Is this normal for the truck, or is something wrong with it?
Thanks, Dana

That is normal if your in a cold climate, it's the grid heaters turning on and off.
