steering controls

There is a single wire that hooks into the back of radio all by its self. besides the usual grey hookup. If this truck has had a aftermarket radio in it before they may have left off this wire when the went back to original system.

Tom is correct. My name is also Tom. Yeah. Seriously Its is a white connector. Could be a different radio than originally came with thte truck as well without the connector port.

Yes, but when the clock spring fails it's usually all the way across. The cruise control won't work and the airbag light comes on.

dash removal

all you have to do is turn the key to the on position and pull the gearshift lever all the way down and the front of the dash just pulls off and there are 4 sscrews holding the radio in.

On a '98.5 there is one screw next to the aux power jack (cig lighter) that must be removed before pulling the dash. You will also have to disconnect the connector to this jack in order to remove the dash cover completely.
