Steering Gear Mounting Bolts

Anybody ever had mounting bolt hoop stress failure? Just noticed this weekend that one of the mounting bolts (qty 3) failed. snapped like a twig. Another bolt must've been working its way loose, but caught it just in time. The third bolt is still intact, but who knows if it's come under a lot of stress.
Any ideas as for a replacment, besides dealer?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I could not find the mounting bolt anywhere. Dealer sells them for 7 bucks.

Have you tried measuring the bolt , then trying a place that sells fasteners? they should be able to hook you up with something , keep in mind if it is metric is should be at least a 10.9 , or in standard , a grade 8.

If you can't get 10.9 in metric than 8.8 would work... 10.9 can be hard to find sometimes.

The bolt is a #14. I was kind've hesitant to buy off shelf (NAPA, PEPBoys, etc.) due to the uncertainty of the threads. The Steering Gear box mounting holes are threaded as well. I just bought one from the dealer(special order). Oh well.

A thread pitch gauge would have been very helpful, it's not too late , unless you paid for the bolt at the dealer already.

Bring the bolt with you, find a nut to fit it. Then buy bolts to fit said nut.

bolts

Hit your local auto salvage yard and get all three for cheap and eliminate the guess work on getting the correct bolt also cuts out giving any cash to the local DC dealer !

Thanks for the feedback. I already spent the money. I'll take ya'lls advice in the future. If snapped once, it will snap again.

Not if you use one of these http://www.solidsteel.ca/DSS.htm

No doubt if the bolts snapped your frame has been flexing where the box is attached also, getting weaker and weaker.

If you have a Fastenal near you they have all sorts of sizes and shapes of bolt and fasteners. We use Fastenal industrail at work and so far I am pleased with the quality of their products and service over works old supplier.
