steering components

ahh yes, so my bad luck continues. after taking my truck in for a busted fuel tank and sticking door and receinving horrible service from the dealer, they mention to me that my trac bar, drag link, and steering damper are worn and will need replacement. they quoted me around 1000 with labor.

now i guess i got some decisions to make and would appreciate yalls input

1)how easy or hard is this to do yourself, im not an idiot but dont really have any experience with that type of thing

2)is the 1000 they quoted outrageously high?

3)would any of these components need replaced again if i were to lift my truck with either a mild leveling kit or a whole 6" lift kit?

thanks
jeff

Re:steering components

The repairs aren't hard to do at all. If you don't have the right tools Auto Zone will let you borrow them. I would do it my self and Yeah $1,000 is very HIGH.

Re:steering components

Some people like to use Pullers to get the parts off. I just use my 3lb mini sledge . Air tools are nice but you don't have to have them. All in all it is a simple job. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Re:steering components

If you think there is a chance in the future that you will be lifting the truck dont bother with a new track bar or even a lukes link as it will be useless with a lift kit. Your better off to replace it with a DTT track bar, then when you do the lift its adjustable and this track bar doesnt wear out after 3 trips to the corner store for smokes.

The other parts are easy to replace and with the price they quoted you can BUY all the tools you will need to do this and have a bunch of cash left over.

Good Luck

Jason
