Steering Box

My steering box has a lot of play in it and I don't know if I should replace it or try this product. http://www.solidsteel.biz/dss.htm . Will this product take care of my problem or should I just buy a new box? Options or personal experiences. And yes it is the box that has the play in it.

I would try the steering stabilizer first, because a new box looks to be around 400 for me. This is only 200, if it doesn't work then you can get another box and then you will already have the stabilizer.

A PSC replacement box is $300. If you put the stabilizer on it will help save the new box if you decide to try it first. Tom at PSC recommended using the DSS when I put in the new box (I already had the DSS to prolong the life of the old box).
I also put on a Borgeson steering shaft when I changed the box. That was an expensive month...

What type of play does it have (rotational only, i.e. the pitman arm is tight to the bearing, or linear - the pitman arm moves linearly prior to rotating)? The DSS cures (helps at least) fix the second type of play. Have you tried to adjust the box? Note that there are 2 adjustments. One is via the locking screw on the top of the box and the other is via an adjustment nut under the input shaft. Try to get your hands on a factory service manual for instructions on how to make the adjustments.

..steering box play..

When the steering wheel is turned left right on my 93 in the off position the shaft moves left and right before it rotates. It moves aoubt 1/8". Am I to assume this tolerance will require a new steering box?

If the box is bad, it needs replaced, or rebuilt. Then install the DSS to prevent the repaired/new box from failing prematurely.

All of my play is internal, in that I have to turn the wheel more than I should to get it to react. The Pitman Arm doesn't have any play at all in fact the only play I can find is in the gear box. I didn't know about the second adjustment, I'll give that a try and see if it helps.
