Do not use stainless, it will not take torque and you will end up stripping and galling threads then watch the cursing when it wont come off. steel with a little copper never-size

BS>> even 316 SS will rust..

blueboy..would you like pictures..?? 300 never rust..BS!!
ask any who has a boat on salt water?? SS316 will rust!!
sorry I don't argee.. heat and a corrosive environment..and without O2..even SS316 will rust..no O2..no chromium layer no protection from rust.

worse SS is SOFT!! think grade 3 bolts or less in strength not grade 5.

We have a winner!

Stainless isn't all that its cracked up to be. Its shiny and expensive. I use nickle never-seize (nuclear grade), but I get it free from work.

I had a high end air cooled Italian diesel engine running an irrigation pump that used steel studs with brass nuts on the exhaust manifold.
Never galled or rusted on.

umm ok, so i went to the local fastenal store and was throrughly disappointed in their selection of metric (fasteners) they did not have any metric studs whatsoever, not even to be ordered, they did not have any flange nuts that were brass, they could order regular brass nuts, but the clinger was that i would have to order a pack of 100.... ***!!! the only flange nuts they had were zinc coated, not even black oxidized, and i would have to buy 100 at a time, disappointed, very disappointed... and then i bought a bottom tap to chase the threads in my manifold and after i paid 12.32+tax for it, i found out that it was made in CHINA and on top of that they gave me change for a 50 in one dollar bills!!! NOT IMPRESSED! im going to the strip club now to ease my mind!

I've been 100% disappointed with Fastenal no matter what it is I need.
Don't see how they stay in business. Better luck at my local Ace Hardware or Napa.
Napa for sure has metric studs.

Same here. They are trying to get more into retailing power tools and crap than fasteners. Probably because of the low markups on fasteners.
