Squeaking blower fan.
Squeaking blower fan.
Does anyone else have a squeaking noise coming from blower fan when running the a/c or vent? It's driving me nuts! It sounds like crickets. Is there a fix for it?
I was going to tear into it but I really don't know what I'm looking for (never seen inside one). Anybody got any suggestions or do I need to replace the unit?

I just replaced my fan motor. (I think it might have aggravated the shifting thing due to the motor being "noisey".) The one I got was a cheapie from a local parts store. They are much different and look crude as motors go. You might want to think about getting a dealer one and not the cheap one. Take your old one out and take it to the parts store to see what I mean. You could always install the cheapie and return it if it doesn't work okay, but parts stores are weird about electrical parts. 3 screws and its on the floor, almost. Look out for the "blast tube" it cools the motor.

I've run into some that are noisy due to leafs stuck inside.
Had good luck back flushing them out by closing all dash vents but the drivers, dash switch position in dash vent then using a leaf blower aimed at the driver's vent.
If there are a lot of leafs good idea to remove the slotted cowl under the wipers.

I'll back infidel on this one also. My truck had the phantom cricket that turned out to be 2 reiepts from lowes and a ton of pine needles. I dropped the heater fan and cleand the ducts along with under the cowl. The slight musty sell went away along with my crickets.
