Question Squeak?

I have a front end squeak that I can't seem to locate. I have ruled out bearings and brakes because the squeak seems to only come when going slow (under 40) and when I hit ruts or uneven pavement. Also it doesn't go away when the brakes are applied. No noticeable vibration (other than the pavement) whatsoever.

I thought it could be the doors, and sprayed some silicone in all the hinges or where I saw metal to metal. But the squeak remains. I think it may be a front end problem, but also feel it may be the dash itself squeaking? Does anyone have somthing similar???

It doesn't seem like a big deal but it is annoying, and am wondering if it just may be the poor quality control that Chrysler products are sometimes known for.

ahh yes, the horrible 2nd gen. squeak........I had it own my 2000, exact same symtoms as your describing now.

Two other very common things that cause this squeak are the transmission linkage. Spray any linkage you can see w/ something like PB Blast. This cured mine but only lasted for a few days.

The other possible problem could be the steering linkage, spray anything you can see lol.

Hope you find it, I know how annoying it can be. (or ya could just turn up the stereo )

Try lubricating the transmission shift linkage, pay close attention to the part of the linkage that goes into the transmission. There is a plastic grommitt there thats gets dry and sound travels up the linkage inside the truck.

Thanks mrock for the post.

I have it too. Didn't realize it was a common problem until just now.

Mine sounds like it's coming from the drivers door or the drivers side of the dash. It's an annoying little squeek at low speed that seems to come and go. Had my wife sit in the truck with the motor off and the doors shut while two of us rocked it but we couldn't get it to sqeek. I thought it might be the door hinges or locks. I've been shooting WD-40 at everything I can think of. I haven't tried the suggestions above but I will tomorow and let you know.

Still love the truck.

The trans linkage where it goes through the frame. Hit it with something more than WD-40. Try some spray lythium grease. One way to tell for sure is, while you are going down the known road at a slow speed you will hear it squeak. Now shift into neutral. The squeak usually goes away. I think it has something to do with the plating at that point of contact. After awhile the plating wears off, but when you change the linkage position, it clears up.

The reason I go with lythium is that WD-40 usually only last for a couple of days before you hear it again. The lythium usually last a year.

My old 92 had the wheel covers that were held on by the lug nuts. If they weren't perfectly centered they made a terrible low speed squeak. (probably high speed too but you just couldn't hear it then).

I have the same thing the dealer told me it was the step bars and I needed to make them tighter. I got them as tight as I could and it is no better, so much for their expert oppinion.
Does any one else notice it more when it is cold out?
I am going to try the linkage trick hopefully that will be the end.

i have been covering that "annoying squeak" in mine by turning up the music for months. Finally found the culprit on mine on my last trip.
my overhead has the garage door opener storage area and the glasses storage area with two push on off lights. my squeak is in the drivers side on off light. if i hold up on it just a little it quits. haven't figured out how to fis it yet , maybe bubble gum or super glue
