I just recieved a set of Sport composite headlight assemblies complete with the 9007 and 9004 bulbs. The 9007 is installed in the low beam (outboard) port and the 9004 is installed in the high beam (inboard) port. My question is this, when you activate the high beams, do the low beams stay on or do they shut off and only the &quot;high-filament&quot; of the inboard 9004 is energized?<br>

 

I think everything being stock for stock, the low beams shut off when you turn on the highs. I know mine do on my 99, unless I hold the switch halfway in, then all of the lights are on at that point.

 

On my 2001.5 Sport all 4 bulbs burn on high beam. I can hold the switch bach and it does get brighter almost like one of the bulbs has a double filament. Does anyone know if it will overheat the bulbs running the &quot;double filament&quot; long periods of time???

 

The outer use the low filament on low beams. they use both high filaments when you turn on the highs and the low goes off. I have heard that you will hurt the lenses if you wire the low beam to stay on, but haven't seen it. I have 65/100w 9007's and 85/100 9004's in mine. The longest that I have run without dimming has been 1/2 hour. I also have a thick film over my light to protect them from from sand blast, and it will hold the heat. No problems.

 

Be aware that your non-Sport Ram uses no relays in the headlight circuits while the Sport Rams use a relay to activate the high-beam filaments of the inboard (9004) bulbs only. Apparently DC feels the additional 130 watts in the quad high beam circuit would fry the headlight switch.<br><br>The Sport version of the Ram uses the 55 watt low-beam filaments of the outboard (9007) bulbs for low beam and all four 65 watt high-beam filaments for high beam. The low-beam filaments are not used with the high-beam filaments on either Sport or non-Sport.<br><br>The Sport version of the Brite Box from Baker Auto Accessories in Steamboat Springs, CO keeps the 9007 low-beam filaments on when the high-beam filaments are switched on, apparently without meltdown.<br><br>The Sport headlamps added to my 2000 Ram are wired with 12 gauge wire and switched with relays. I added an extra relay that is triggered when the high beams are on. This extra relay turns on the low-beam filaments (all four of them)—my custom, cheap version of the Brite Box. I've had nothing melt so far. I don't use high beams unless I'm moving and creating a bit of airflow past the lamps.

Is there a way I can wire up somethign up to keep both my high and low beam filaments on at the same time? Maybe a switch or something? I've got the single bulb headlamps.

 

I like the sport headlights. Great visibillity at night.

 

would it be possible to make a wiring kit that plugs right into the factory headlight sockets, with an extra ground and +12 connection with relays and all? that might be worth the investment if you could make a totally plug and play sport headlight kit... or did someone already do this?
