source for factory forged aluminum wheels

Hello.

My truck has the factory 16x6.5" chrome steel wheels, and the truck came from the factory with 245/75-16 tires.

The original owner installed 235/85-16 tires on the truck several thousand miles before I purchased the truck from him. I like the extra height, but the narrow looking tire is killing me. The equivalent height tire, but wider, is a 265/75-16. Unfortunately, the tire manufacturer's recommend a 7", 7.5", or 8" wide wheel for a 265.

I read on this forum that the 2000-2002 16x8 forged aluminum wheels have 6.25" of backspacing, something you'll never find in an aftermarket wheel. I don't want the tires to be sticking out the side of the truck.

Where can I find these factory aluminum wheels, for a decent price? Or, has anybody found a decent, not outrageously priced, 16x8 aftermarket wheel with the correct backspacing to keep the wheel from hanging out the side of the truck. I'd even settle for a 7.5" wide wheel, because then I could always go back to the stock 245 if necessary.

Thanks.

Let me put it to you this way, I've got a set with 50 miles on them, I don't really want to sell them but for the right offer I would.

Generally, when somebody has something they don't want to sell, they'll sell it for more than what somebody could find the same thing elsewhere. Am I correct?

You know that you have to turn down the rear drums and they may rub on the tie rod ends, if they fix at all. Do a search on the subject here and on TDR. SNOKING

Snoking - Did the rear drums and tie rod ends change between 1997 and 2000? I thought for sure they would be a direct fit, since they are both 2nd gens.

The forged wheels run into the outer rim on the drum, that must be machine off, they where design for the rear disc brakes on 2001.5 and drums on 2000 trucks. I believe before they came out the drums where different. SNOKING

Well isn't that just a bunch of crap?

So, what have the 94 - 99 owners been doing in order to run 265/75-16's with the correct width wheel? Machining the drums? Converting to 2000 drums? Aftermarket wheels with the sides of the wheel and tires hanging out a foot or two?

I found a set of factoy aluminum rins at small tire shop, I got 4 for $100 .Then sold them for $300. Probably a good deal still. That was before I got my truck . I have eagle alloys on mine. I also saw a guy unloading abunch of aluminum rims at a metal recycling place and he had a set of dodge truck rims. I didnt have any money on me and offered the guy to keep them and id come to his house and buy them . He declined...
Now im also looking for another set for winter studded tires.

Had not heard about the rear brake drum fit problem. Ill have to ask my buddy ive I can try one of his rims on my '99

You should hit up some tire shops. Im sure you can find a set someone left at a tire shop because they bought some fancy(probably ugly) aftermarket rims.

I though chrome wheels were 7" wide, and the painted steel wheels were 6 1/2" wide.

I know that some 96 1500 4X4 trucks came with 265/75-16 on chrome wheels. The wheels then were 7" wide.

No, I think the chrome steel wheels are 6.5" wide.
