Sound Deadening project.

Well I have had to do something about the drone/noise in my truck. Not that I have a problem with it, its the passengers, namely my kids in the back seat that object to the highway noise.

After some pokin around on noise control I decided to put down some serious sound deadening material from
B-Quiet
on the floor and rear wall. I have read about how this makes it so you can hear a pin drop after the install, so I am looking forward to at least a 50% reduction in noise. Got 100 sqft of the "Ultimate" and 26 sqft of the "Vcomp" material for a complete cover of the floor and rear wall.

Those that have done it or something like it, please post your results and process. I would like to know if I went overboard on the whole deal..

Got 2 layers of sound deadening material EVERYWHERE in the 95. Roof, back wall, floor, as much as the front firewall as possible, doors, anything I could get something on!

Made it sound more solid when I closed the doors, and on those cold mornings it took some of the "noises" out of it! As for noise, it made a difference...how much is hard to say, but I can run a 4" straight pipe with a lot less complaints than before. It's definitely quieter than my 98 was with a 4" straight!

I'm looking into getting some for around the trans shifter hole (I kind of did a quick job of cutting it for my swap) So I lost some of the seal there. I can't hear my exhaust at all with my windows up, all I hear is the engine/trans. and all I want to hear is the engine, lol.

The problem I have is not the cruising, but the loaded haul of the TT. Empty its quiet and I have no complaints. I was hoping to have control of some of the drone at highway speed that seems to come right through the rear wall of the cab. We will see what happens I guess. They have done diesels before so I hope they weren't blowin smoke..

I stumbled on this product and found out B-Quiet is only 4 hours away from me!! Nice...

It probably won't be ur issue at all, but u might check ur exhaust to make sure all the connections are tight and sealed. Mainly the DP to tailpipe connection, mine would make a wierd noise before I fixed all the leaks between the DP, cat, muffler etc... But U have a straight pipe right? So u might think about a small muffler to kill the drone. A muffler makes a huge difference. Maybe get a swap in and out one so u can easily put it in for trips or what not then put the straight pipe connector back in.

No, I have the MBRP muffler in there... I was hoping not to have the drone as I researched it alot before I got that system. But now that I recall, most guys reporting "no drone" had short boxes..

I have to pull the entire interior out on the bottom, so I hope it does something.

I took out my cat, and left the muffler, I've got a Banks Dynaflow muffler, it's a really good unit for sound control. There's no drone whatsoever, but with the windows down u get a nice grunt out of it.

I think the length of pipe for the long wheelbase ClubCab is just the right length for drone. Easy install though, no cutting required...

You don't have kids right? My other option is a different ride. But my wife really likes the 07's and would trade in the van tomorrow.. I just don't need the BIG payment.

I'm sure you'll find a big difference from covering the rear wall - it is bare metal. When I had my bench out for a speaker install, the noise went up a whole lot.

I would also pull off the plastic panels and cover behind them - same deal, no kind of insulation/sound deadening at all.

Apparently you can make these trucks as quiet as 3rd gens...

Well thats what the guys at Stereo-types said (they own/sell B-Quiet products out of Lethbridge!) is that the carpet is the only coverage in the truck. They got me to go overboard a tad with the extra sound control foam, but I can't see how it would hurt. Less road noise is good for tunes too. I figure $500 isn't too much to spend if I can enjoy it too..

Yup, materials only. 100 sqft of the ultimate dampener and the other foam backed sound barrier.

Got the back of the cab done except for the side walls, not sure how to cover that up with that massive cubby hole in there. covered the floor, rear wall with ultimate, then applied the foam backed barrier to the same. Wow, sure is quiet back there now, just have to complete the front end. Thats the problem when you need it for business, can't have it down too long. Ah well... Sure makes the drive on gravel roads alot less noisey.
