Only twice in 14 years has the truck failed to start right off and both times were due to air in the lines (a leak in fuel pressure gauge line and fuel filter cannister seals). Twice this week, after sitting for over 24 hours, I've had to crank on it, turn it off, crank again before it starts. It acts just like in the past when there was a very slow leak in a fuel system component; ie NO fuel leaking on pavement below truck. First and MAIN question: if it fails to start after few cranks is there a quick way to bleed the air out so it will start? Second question: once I get home (we're traveling and won't be back home until May where I have most of my tools), what is the best way to determine where the fuel leak is? The truck starts fine after it's been driven; it only seems to do this when sitting for at least 24 hours.

 

It would be helpful to know what type truck you have.

 

Sorry, I thought my signature would be inserted. 2001 Dodge 2500 HO, 6 speed manual, 275,000 miles. New Raptor lift pump and remanufactured injection pump installed 4000 miles ago.

 

Bumping the starter should let the pump run for 30 seconds I believe. Should be enough to re-prime.

 

I'd check fuel lines and fittings. Sounds like you got a small compromise, which would allow a bit of air in at cool down.
After a filter change I need to crack injectors 2 and 4,,,3/4" open end IIRC, to get it started. Mine won't re-prime with the key trick..
