Sounds like a stock Dodge torque converter, if you have an automatic tranny.

I would check your AFC diaphram and make sure you dont have a leak. you could be leaking till you really get some boost building and then seem like normal.

The first thing I would try is adjusting the position of the AFC. I have been 'playing' with mine and with it all the way back it will do what you say yours is doing. Put it about 3/4 forward and then pull the cap out of the top and adjust the star wheel to your liking. If you got too far forward you can kill your mileage (that's why I have been playing with mine).

What he said..

I would guess timing has slipped, but i have no experience with the auto trannies, you arent getting smoke and you are getting tossed into the seat, sounds to me like ur housing could be at stock position as well, plate change maybe?

The AFC plate is just above the fuel plate on top of the rear of the fuel pump. Since you said you get a lot of white smoke, that says your timing has slipped. Take a look here and you will have some good info: http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/timing.htm
Be sure to look at the TSB posted there. That is the insructions for how to time it.

I think Phox hit the nail on the head. What happens is the torque converter "locks up" then you can put the power to the ground. Thats why you feel all the power after 50-60 mph in overdrive. The stock converter has a poor fluid coupling so all you get is a lot of RPMs without much forward momentum.......until the lockup happens then hang on. I had the same problem until I got an after market torque converter from Dave Goerend. It works great, just like it should have from the Dodge factory.

Thomas there are many vendors that make torque converters for our trucks. DTT, ATS, BD, Dave Goerend and others. After a lot of research I purchased a triple disk converter from Dave and really like it a lot. You cant beat the warranty and Dave is a great guy to deal with and is very informative. I have a pic of the TC in my gallery.
