I'm getting a lot of rock dings on the front and rear lower portions of my dually fenders. Lots more than I had at 80K on my last SRW. The front damage must be from the front tire. Rear mudflaps may cure the rear problem, but I'm not sure about the front. I have about 2500 miles on the truck, about 200 on gravel. I'm guessing if I don't do somthing, I'll be out of paint by 50K :'(. Does anyone make a gaurd or coating I could put on the lower part of the fenders? Any Ideas???<br><br>

 

A lot of guys down here started putting the rhino lining along the lower edge of there trucks. The other option is to put on running boards.

 

It ain't pretty but it works in the North Country. I put a set of these on my Dodge dually last year and drove 21,000 miles on a trip without getting one chip on the truck. That included doing the Alcan both ways. The trick is to hang em low and make sure they are at least out as far as the tire.

 

Just be carefull backing over curbs, you'll rip those right off.<br><br><br>phox

MX bikers have a prduct called Force Field,that is a thick plastic film used to protect number plates and tanks from flying mud and rocks. I'm sure it would work but,I have never used it and not sure what it costs.

My truck has about 6200 miles on it, and I've already got quite a few chips despite my mud flaps.

 

I just recently purchased a 2002 QC dually cummins. I was concerned about rock chips also. I installed a set of putco boss stainless steel running boards with the mud flaps incorporated into the design. I also bought the rear extenders which have the rear mud flap as part of the package. I am very happy with the looks, and it should protect the paint very well.

 

I bought the Bremen running boards and skirt kit available at Van and truck world Love the looks and if you check out the daulies post you can see em too!

 

After my wreck, I had the body man cover the full rockers with a product called &quot;Rocker Schutz&quot; NOt sure what it's made of or how it is applied but I love the stuff. Both of my Toyota trucks and BMW cars came with that stuff (or something similar) applied on the rockers from the factory, and they *never* got rock chips down low. Only problem is, it has to be done like yours was and painted over to look right. Not a do-it-yourself proposition for most people. With no garage, if I tried it, I'd have grass clippings, bugs, you name it, immortalized in my rocker panels...
