OK, I screwed myself. I bought a Rear Speed Sensor for my truck from Advance Auto along with a few other parts. I should have checked the parts before leaving the store. Once home and under the truck I found I had been given a VSS not RSS. So I think 'Oh well, I will just replace that too', Stupid mistake.

I replaced the old VSS and now the speedometer and odometer do not work. I guess it is possible that I screwed the wiring , butmy first concern is the gear on the VSS does not feel like its interfacing with anything else in the transfer case. Should it just drop in with out a click or some type of feedback?


The Truck is a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 diesel with 47re.

OK, I have just read something about 'alingment marks' on the VSS housing. I guess this may be the problem.
