Receiver Hitch
Receiver Hitch
I have a 2002, 3500, HO, 6 speed and am wondering what the class rating is on the factory receiver hitch. The dealer didn't know if it was a class III or IV, figures. I'm getting ready to haul a 8,000 boat about 800 miles and want to make sure it's still there when I get home. Does anyone have this information?
You may get better response in the towing/hauling section, but if you're going to tow a 8000lb boat, upgrade the hitch to a ClassV either way, unless you will be using an "Equalizer" brand hitch (only weight distribution hitch that can be used on boat trailers).
BTW - it is Class III on my 01.5 (5k/500lb tongue w/o WD hitch).

Thanks, appreciate the response. Just so happens someone with a 2500 same year parked near me this morning with the identical receiver hitch and it is rated at 10,000# Towing Weight and 1,000# Tongue Weight. I should be okay, but I will definetly look in to upgrading to a class V. Thanks for the advice. I love this site.
My factory tow package is III-IV and is rated to 500# tongue / 5000# tow. Your probably have the tag painted over, mine was like that. I cleaned it up with acetone and count finally read it.
