Rear bumper tag lights

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up on something I found out today.
I went to replace what I thought was a dead bulb in one of my rear tag lights today only to find that the entire assembly had corroded and melted away. When I went to look at the other side, it was starting to do the same thing. Solution: Off to the junk yard! It seemed like every Ram I came across was either missing the tag light sockets, or they were in as bad of shape as mine were. I was talking to the guy behind the counter and he told me to check out the Chrysler mini vans?!?! Sure enough, they have the same sockets and bulbs that we use on the Rams, with the exception that they're tucked up under a piece of the tailgate away from the elements. Well, $5 later I've got a nearly new set of replacement tag light sockets.
Pretty lame problem with what I thought was going to be a easy solution, but that wasn't the case. Hopefully this will help someone out later or at least pop up in a search if someone is looking.

Mine won't stay in the hole-they just keep popping out and give the underside of my truck a nice, warm glow.
Guess I'll have to get them back in their place just long enough to make it through inspection in a couple of months.

thanks for the heads up on the mini van swap. i need both of mine. pulled the bed off a couple of weeks ago to put my FASS on, and when i was undoing some wiring back there found the same thing you did. one light corroded and broke right in half when i tried to remove it. the other one was missing. i'll go look for some minivan replacements!!
