Wink rear brakes

I was told that there was an upgrade kit that allowed a larger rear slave cylinder on the early 2nd gen trucks to keep the front brakes from shelling every 12k. Anyone got any info?

I believe you may be thinking about upgrading the rear brakes to GM 1-ton parts. A quick search should reveal plenty of info about it.

Sounds alright. I think all it is is a new slave cylinder, so I'm told.

Is this upgrade feasable? I've heard about it but noone seems to know cause noone has done it that I know of. Do the bigger cylinders work with the same master cylinder and lines?

Yes I have them installed and they work 100 percent. Best and cheapest brake mod you can do....The box might say its metric size but no problem, they bolt right in and the line fitting screws on ok...

Stock '94-'96 3/4 ton Rams came with 24mm cylinders, the Napa cylinder is 30mm. The increase in bore size translates to a 52% increase in braking force.

This $25 modification is easy to and works on all years of Rams with rear drum brakes.

It's my understanding the early ones did have undersized wheel cylinders that were upgraded for later models. Not sure if that is true. I did have trouble with mine being grabby and not seeming to use the rear brakes like it should. I traced that down to the rear brakes being out of adjustment. Most of the grabbiness went away with proper adjustment and they seem to work good now with no other changes.

All 3500s and all 2500s starting in '97 have 27mm cylinders.
The #37337 at 30mm is still a very noticeable 23% increase in braking force.
