Question about A/C
Question about A/C
My a/c is hit or miss. (1999 2500) Mornings it seems to work good , mid day if the truck is parked it works good for 10 mins, then warms up. Then after a hour I can get back in and it works again for a while . I had it topped up on Friday , and i looked over at the gauge from my buddy’s shop service A/C filler , and I think I saw it around 35 lbs ( or whatever the unit is). I read another thread they can take 48. He said that’s pretty full at 35. The compressor is spinning proper. Truck runs at normal temps. What I noticed is , for the last 15 years owning the truck, when I shut it off , I’d get all the condensation dripping on to the ground forming a puddle. Even know I’m still getting 10-15 mins of a/c , I never get the water drain . I used a plastic zip tie and went through the firewall, hoping it was clogged but the zip tie went in with some wiggling . Looking for a few options or things to check . I ran the leaf blower through the vents and the garden sprayer into the drain hose on the firewall . I let it dry for a day and took it for a spin and in the driveway it was coolish but when I went around the block it got warm and stayed warm . I turned the heater/AC dial to check the blend door, and when I switched it to heater , the air went hot. Back to cold and I could feel it change temps somewhat. Also, I do not get any water on the floor. ( like when my heater core leaked) .
Shot a video of my AC clutch … looks like it spins off centre, or it’s just not engaged ?

It's engaging and disengaging way too frequently, or it's slipping. You need to figure out which, and why. I couldn't tell from the video if there were audible clicks when the clutch face/plate would start spinning or stop. Clicks would indicate that the clutch is engaging and disengaging (likely due to refrigerant pressure issues) - no clicks likely means the clutch is slipping. That second "layer" of the clutch should not be off-center as seen in the video. Based on that, I'd say your clutch is slipping and needs to be replaced (at minimum).
I suggest checking system pressures with a proper set of AC gauges (for R134A) and/or checking clutch-engagement command with either a multimeter or a test light to get a bigger picture. If the system is low on refrigerant, the compressor may be shedding debris into the condenser and orifice tube, and it won't be worth replacing just the compressor clutch.

By looking at your video your clutch is toast! The compressor is not spinning correctly. I would take it to a different shop because if it was doing this when you had it topped off that guy shouldn't be doing A/C work. And as a side note if you ever need to add Freon you have a leak. The system is a 100% sealed system. When Freon leaks it also leaks the oil to keep everything lubricated. If you have "Topped" it off a few times it most likely is also low on oil and could have caused the damage to occur.
Either way let someone else have a quick look but you should be planning on a complete compressor replacement with corresponding parts.
