power for tool box light
Does anyone know the best place to pick up 12volt so I can put a light in my tool box? I want it to be controlled by the dome light circuit.

You could probably just tie into the the rear cargo light (the one by the 3rd brake light.so it would be seperate from the dome. It would probably be easier to just put in some battery powered light. Unless you use it alot.

I have always used a pin switch, like what is used to turn on the light when you open the door. Then wire the light so that when you open the toolbox, it comes on. I ran mine to the battery with a fuse inline, then the pin switch makes the ground to turn it on. Very easy to do, and once you get used to the light, it's hard to do without.
By doing it the way I did, it will always come on, even if the truck is locked.
All you have to do is run the power wire & fuse from the battery (or other constant 12v source) to the toolbox. Then mount the pin switch in an area that it won't get damaged, and in such a way that when the lid is closed, the pin is depressed, and when the lid is open, it is up. Then hook the power wire to the pin. The ground is made thru the body of the pin switch. If it is a plastic toolbox, then you will have to add a ground wire from the body of the pin switch to the truck body. I would also make sure you mount the switch insuch a way as to make it hard for anything in the toolbox to touch the bottom of the pin and make the circuit. If it does, it will only blow the fuse, but replacing fuses all the time can be a pain.
