My truck was missing the parking brake when i bought it, the only cable left on the truck was the rear driver side cable. so i went to the dealer to order a whole new setup, when i finally got the cable (it took a week to get them?) the driver side rear cable they gave me was much shorther then the one on the truck. this truck has been modified, and i dont think the bracket that the two rear cables meet at, is stock. The dealer said its the only cable available. im wondering if he is crazy, or my truck has been tampered with. the cable that the tip was broken off on, is roughly 53'' from where it enters the drum, to the bracket on the frame, and he gave me like one that was 28''.

this is a 2002 quad cab long bed. how long is your driver side rear cable from drum to brake on frame?

 

Mine is about 45 inches and has a spring at the drum with what looks like an old screen door latch that slips into the activator. Mine of course is a dually which takes a different cable. Wagner is the only one I could find that had my type of brake cable. I just replaced both on mine. If you don't have a dually, you have something different. A sig would help.

 

I have done some more research, and i notice on my truck on the drivers side rear, the cable goes around, and enters the rear most spot of the backing plate, not like the passengers side, it enters the front. I have looked at other trucks, and they both enter the front of the back plates, on both sides. That would make sense why the dealership keeps sending me this short cable. Im curious if the rear end was swapped with another, but what?
i also was wondering if the backing plate was some how flipped over, but the adjuster is on the bottom, and the wheel cylinder is on the top. I cant figure out how to fix this issue. what rear end is in my truck!??!?!

 

I don't think the rear discs have a wheel cylinder on the e-brake shoes, its just a pivot point. My 01.5 has the drivers adjuster on the bottom and the passenger on the top IIRC. Your truck should have the Dana 80 rear end. Look for the id plate on the diff housing at the rear cover or check for an inverted 80 on the pumpkin drivers top.
