Paint peeling!!

Hi everyone. I am sure this is not a new topic. I am wondering if anyone has had the paint peel off their Dodge product? It peels down to the primer. The peeling starts as a bubble under the paint then it flakes off. Has anyone had it corrected by DC? My father also has a 92 dakota with a bare hood and roof. The paint peeled off the entire hood and roof the same way I described. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Re:Paint peeling!!

From my understanding, from late 80s to mid 90s paint peeling off of vehicles is not uncommon. In fact it happened to the big 3 auto makers. The EPA came up with strict guidelines on the emissions the car manufactures were putting out, painting being one of them. Also the ban on lead based paint. Unfortunately the consumers were the ones that suffered due to the change in the way they painted vehicles. They have pretty much eliminated the problem with paint on the new vehicles. I had a 89 Chevrolet that the paint started to peel off and they repainted it for me, but it was still under warranty.

Re:Paint peeling!!

I had an 89 GMC truck that peeled. The dealer repainted it free because of a known defect in the process. You might want to check with the dealer on any possibility of getting Chrysler to pay for a new paint job.

Re:Paint peeling!!

My local Dodge dealer repaint mine about a year and a half back. They also repaint my partners 94 3500 and so far everything is cool!

I took my 1990 Ford F-250 to Maaco right before I traded it in on my RAM! ;D

Re:Paint peeling!!

I was never crazy about DC's paint work! I had a 96 Ram 1500 and the paint just looked very chalky!! I have noticed on the road and when I was considering buying a used diesel that the tow tone paint jobs seemed to peel a lot!!! I wouldn't be surprised if that is why they stopped doing them!!

Re:Paint peeling!!

I noticed the clear coat has started peeling off of mine. Haven't noticed any base coat (other than rock chips).
