Oil Change
I pull my hose and airbox too. It makes life easier. I also use a strap wrench and then take a garbage bag and put it under the filter when I spin the filter off the oil is containd. Then just fill the filter with some oil, put a little oil on the seal and smear it with my finger, tighten it hand tight and good to go. no leaks.
Lost the Engine Oil
Apparantly he wasn't "comfortable" with hand tight and decided to get a little more snug with the filter. He managed to put a small dent/crease in the bottom of the filter and it cracked and blew all the oil out of it. Needless to say his first "do it yourself" oil change on this truck is going to cost more than 49.00.
I have never driven a truck with a massive oil leak such as you mentioned. But........ doesnt the oil light come on? Isnt there an audible alarm? There must be something to let the driver know there is a problem.
