Question Newbie Again

Hey Guys,
Looked at a 01 yesterday at the Dodge dealer with 79k on the clock.
They salesman I had wasn't real knowledgable about the CTD.
They were busy, so couldn't get a straight answer out of anybody & I had work to do.
Questions What is still under warranty? The engine to 100K, correct? What about the trans & rear axle, ect??
They still have to service it & detail it since they just got it in. Salesman couldn't even tell me what would be done on the service, I was aking him about the trans. Finally they brought me out a service checklist, but wouldn't let me take it or a copy home!
Also wanted to ask about an extended warranty, what should I get & look out for? Are some better than others? Buy it thru the dealer or???
They are asking 21,900, which according to his KBB, is about correct, I haven't looked yet.
Going to check for the 53 engine block too, is there any barganing power here or what if it has the 53??
Thanks thanks thanks

Probably the first thing to look at is the lift pump pressure. I doubt if they will be wanting to put a gauge on it though.

You could get the VIN and ask them to print out a list of all of the warranty work that was done on that truck. This will also tell you if a dealer has voided the engine warranty on it for "tampering" with the injection pump wire, etc. If they don't want to do that, I would go shopping elsewhere.

I wouldn't worry about an extended warranty. By the time it has 79k miles on it, anything that is going to fail that was defective from the factory has already failed.

I had $4,500 of warranty work on my '98.5 by the time it had 32k miles on it. Since then, I had the lift pump replaced at about 46k miles, and the APPS at about 75k.

You might try to have them put it on the rack and look at the ball joints and track bar. Odds are that the ball joints are bone dry.

Check the TSB listing here and see if anything jumps out at you.

I'm sure others will have some valuable input.

You don't have to worry about the "53" block in an 01. They weren't used after the early part of the '99 model run.

don't buy one that has a c.p.s. over the starter and out of warentee, they have a nasty habit of piston cooling jets lieing in the bottom of the oil pan!!

I thought I was reading in the 24Valve motor section where there WERE some 53 motors in the newer (oo, 01, 02) models
I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look
