Re:New Windshield

Take a deep breath guys. I just saw the invoice for the new windshield....(drum roll).......$745.50 ! That's with a 30% discount for the insurance company. So, it's over a grand if you "come in off the street" and pay out of pocket.

They are making about 400% profit or something like that. I have my receipt right in front of me for when I had mine replaced while I was in Charlotte, NC on 3/13/03. List price was $607.45. Selling price was $164.01. Labor was $40.00. Sealer kit was $20.00. Total with sales tax and all was $272 even. The came right to the place I was visiting and were gone before we got back from lunch. The replacement is exactly like the one they removed with the band across the top and the edge shading.

Safelite Auto Glass 1-800-835-2257

DD4X4

Re:New Windshield

The price quotes you guys are saying seem awfully high! I know thats in american dollars to. Here is Canada I had a windshield replaced in my 99 and my 02 ya my 02 already :'( anyways to have it replaced at a standard autoglass I had the guy come to my office both times and put the glass in I paid for it cause my deductable is 5 grand on our insurance. Anyways it was $350 both times from the same place in canadian dollars. I think these guys like insurance claims so they can put a 350 dollar windshield in for a grand. ???

The price I stated above ($745.50) was on my invoice. I didn't pay anything as my insurance picked all of up. The windshield was replaced in the parking lot of my company, so that may contribute to the total price. Also what may need to be considered is that this is in the Boston area where everything is inflated. Heck, a parking space in town goes for $250,000

Re:New Windshield

In Florida, perhaps one of the best states for windshields, I just had a new windshield on my pasenger car replaced. GEICO paid for it, no deductible and it's against the law for them to raise my premium.

The crack had to be larger than a dollar bill
