Question New (used) '01- any suggestions?

Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and would like some advice. I just bought an '01 2500 with the 24-valve cummins with 103,000 mi. it has a 354 rear end. is there anything that needs to be looked at immediately or any improvements that can be made for cheap or nothing? Thanks!

Jason

Congrats on your new toy and welcome to DTR. Sorry I don't have any answers to your questions for I am new to this myself.

Free upgrades...theres really no such thing. You could take the silencer ring out of the turbo if you want to make it louder.

Cycle your key on/off three times ending in the "on" position and watch the odometer window. If there are any codes thrown, they should be displayed. (but not always - for some codes you have to use a scanner)

As well, you NEED a fuel pressure guage. This is extremely important and may save you from replacing the Injector pump (VP-44). At the very leas,t have the post filter fuel pressure checked at idle, cruise, and Wide Open Throttle.

Having a muffler shop cut off your muffler should set you back less than $50.

Drops EGTs and sounds awesome.

You should check to see if it is a 53 block. More than likely it is not, but you will never know until you check, or you see engine coolant all over the pavement via a cracked block...
