New Owner!

Hey guys, I bought an '01 2500 on Saturday (sport, extended cab, 4wd, auto). I have a lot of questions, especially because the dealer didn't have the owners manual - one's on order now. It has 72k miles, body is in awesome shape. Has a brush guard, piaa lights (that were never hooked up!), and a bed shell. I paid 24k, which I think is a good price. I also got a 24k/2 year warrentee, which who knows if it's worth it or not, but this is my biggest purchase thus far and I wanted to cover my ***. I'm reading and reading the forums, learning everything I can about the truck, it's my first diesel. I'm already planning on putting in at least fuel pressure and tranny temp gauges, along with a deeper tranny pan. And maybe down the road a chip.

First off, I want to have the truck inspected. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic on Seattle's east side? I'm going to look up a cummins dealer to check out the engine; do they also cover the rest of the truck as well, or would a regular auto mechanic have to cover that?

I look forward to participating in yet another great online forum, and to years of owning a great truck. Thanks already for all the great info!

Signature done!

I'm planning on putting in a deeper tranny pan and gauges. For my 24v auto, I'm thinking tranny temp, fuel pressure, and EGT gauges to start?

"New to you" things I would do.....Test the lift pump, relocate the crankcase breather bottle (see my picts for a suggestion), new fuel filter, oil change (if they didn't do it), Check the front brakes (my originals made it 72K), have the front end checked (track bar for excessive play, tie rod ends, ball joints). Service the front and rear diffs with synthetic in the rear for sure, trans service (drop the pan, adjust the bands, new filter. Next one do a fluid exchange), drain and fill the transfer case, add an EZ edge and some gauges and enjoy!

Dealership just did an oil change. I want to go to synthetics eventually; that'll include engine oil, tranny fluid, and diffs.

You said your brakes make it 72k...are you talking about the pads wearing out, calipers going bad, warped rotors? Just trying to get an idea about what I'm looking for.

My ship is getting underway for the next two months, so I think a lot of this stuff will have to wait for until I get back. However, I'm definitely going to get the motor checked out, especially with respect to the lift pump/fuel pressure.

where were you 1 month ago? I let mine go for 18.5k, and it already had the mods you want.....

There are plenty of truck just like that one for under 20k on this board. It amazes me to see these things selling for so much.

congrats, and enjoy.

****...I wish I'd seen that! After looking around a lot, I didn't find too many under $25k, most were around 30. Maybe it was because I was looking around Seattle; truck prices seem to be high in this area. I didn't actually start looking until last weekend, and thought I saw a good deal, so I jumped on it.
