New guy here - what do I have?

I inherited my late father's '00 Ram 3500 CTD earlier this year.
It's a long bed, quad-cab 2WD Laramie SLT dually.
It's dark green with a black ("agate" I believe) leather interior. The driver's seat is power, pass. is manual.

Now, the first question I have is this:
It has heated towing mirrors. From reading I'm under the impression that all the heated towing mirrors are power, but on the D/S door panel up high where the mirror control would be, there's just a light grey plastic plug. I'm thinking the previous owner (dad bought it in 8/07 with 96K on it) may have broken it off and just stuck the plug in the hole. Am I correct on the assumption that these are power mirrors? The heaters in them definitely work, on the rare mornings when I need them.

Second question:
It's got the tweeters in the A-pillar trims, and the stereo has a 3-band EQ. Is this considered the Inifinty system? I've replaced the blown rear door speakers and added a Basslink, but the tweets and drivers in the fronts are on their way out. Also, the CD player errors out on everything I put in and the tuner is weak as heck.

Third question:
The overhead console lights no longer work. Not only do they not light up with the rear cab light, they don't even click when you push them. I'm guessing the switches popped out and that I need to epoxy them back in place. Is this commonplace?
Fourth question, somewhat related to #3:
The sunglass compartment overhead has a broken retaining tab. Is there an aftermarket source for this door?

Thanks for reading.

i think i have some answers for ya...
First: it is possible that the the mirrors came off a different truck and they didnt hook up the power mirrors. thats the only thing i can think of. you could pull off the door panel and see if there is a wiring harness for them already run.

Second: I have no clue. my 98 has the same stereo and tweeters and i was told it was the infinity sound system. by the way what size speakers are in the back?

Third: i had the lights break on my 96 and i used JB weld to put them back together. could be that the bulbs are burned out too.

fourth: yet again i have no clue.

Welcome to DTR!! i may not be the best source for info but there is alot of it out there on these forums.

The rears were 5.25" 2-ways. I replaced them with a set of discontinued Pioneers from Best Buy that were on clearance - $19.99 for what were previously $60 speakers.

I've been afraid of pulling the door panel off on account of the pain in the rear I had with the rears, even after going to Harbor Freight and buying a door/trim removal kit.

You can get a replacement sunglass holder door from the local dealer. If my memmory is correct, it was about 20 bucks when I bought mine.

Awesome, I just assumed they would have discontinued it by now. Do you have a P/N handy?

Don't throw anything at me for asking, but do you by any chance have the dash dimmer wheel clicked off? Interior lights are disabled in that position.

Yeah, I'm not an idiot. But thanks for assuming that.
I'm fairly certain that I'd notice not having any dash lights.

I believe they offered heated towing mirrors at that time, manual only though. If you want power mirrors you would have to change the mirrors and add the switch.
You have the infinity system, with the amps integrated into the front speakers. If you are going to replace the speakers, you really need to replace the head unit as well as the infinity one has no amp.
The overhead lights can usually be repaired as the tabs are almost always what break. Do check the bulbs though.
Dealer had a sunglass holder when I had to replace mine as well. However you can probably find one at the junkyard also as they are the same on almost all Dodge vehicles for that period.

The junkyards here are rather short on the more modern 2nd-gens. They have plenty of 94-97s, but that doesn't do me much good.
And Jesus Christ, I've already rewired half the **** electrical system. I think I can figure out of a freaking light bulb is blown. :|

I am pretty sure no 2nd gen towing mirrors ever came with a power option, many people were frustrated about that and very happy when an aftermarket option became available.

My DS map light is broken too, won't click, I did a little quick searching on it when it first happened and it seems to be somewhat common, not sure exactly what causes it though as it just hasn't bugged me enough to replace it yet.

There's likely something wrong with your CD player. Mine would error out on some burned CD's but not all, and definitely none of my legit CD's.

no need to get feisty on here. we are just trying to help. many times it is the simplest thing but not always. my map lights come on with the dome light, either the switch or the door open, try taking them out and see if you are getting power to them while the other dome lights are on.

Here is a replacement for the overhead map light switches to bookmark, in case they are bad.

You know, the people here are trying to help- that's what you ask for. I don't know why you cop an attitude, allot of people just overlook the little things. No one is call you an idiot but some will stop replying if all you do is get upset at their suggestions.
