Need some brake recommendations

I have a 2001 Ram Quad Cab with disc brakes up front and drums in the back. I had a problem last year with the right front wearing out one of the pads (inside or outside...I can't remember) because the caliper wasn't moving like it should. I cleaned it up, greased the slide pins, installed new brake pads, and had the rotor turned. The brakes in the truck are ok but I would like to do a cheap upgrade if possible so it is a little safer when towing. Would upgrading to slotted/cross-drilled rotors be an improvement worth making? Is there a specific brand/type of front pad that performs better than others? I usually just get the organic pads from the local auto parts store.

Towing is a special case. Your truck even with the very best brakes has a long stopping distance empty, and worse with weight in the bed. Then with a trailer...what do you expect? First, be sure your trailer brakes are as good as possible. Drive defensively and slowly where sudden stops or obstacle avoidance might be required. If you travel the Rockies add an exhaust brake.

What size wheels do you have on your truck? If they are 17" or bigger you can put the 03-07s on for only 55.00 per side over a normal brake job. 35% more stopping power over what you have. I also have the GM rear wheel cylinder up grade which helps a little. I can lock up all four wheels towing 10,000 lbs with 34" 160 lb wheels.

I couldn't ask for any more stopping power.
