Pull the dash bezel and remove the bulb? Your truck is a 3rd gen, try posting there.

Sorry, I was just trying to get you a better answer.

IIRC you can pull the dash bezel, its held on by a few metal clips and then pull the instrument cluster. The bulb goes in from behind.

i have read up on this problem and i see that most are saying that it is a Clock Spring. if my cruise works but the airbag light is on would it still be the clock spring?

also the fuel gauge always reads full. i was hopeing to have found the best MPG truck ever but i was thinking that it may be the sending unit. how hard is that to change out?

Thanks,

As far as I know it does'nt matter, but I guess it depends where you take it. Can Zack inspect trucks? If so he could probably help you out

The clock spring does affect the airbag system but I am unsure if a 96 had it. It would I guess if the cruise control controls are on the wheel.

The senders are known to go bad in these rigs, some suggest pulling the bed off over dropping the tank, just be sure to unhook the fill tube and set up some saw horsed behind the truck to set the bed on.

The sender is a quick and easy replacement at this point, just remember not to fill up with the high volume pump after you get your new one, many feel this shortens the life of the sender since it sits right in the fill path.

I called almost every inspection place around and finally one was open. they said that it isn't a problem for now. cause the windshield is also cracked up the middle but i was also told that wasn't a problem.

I live just north of Austin. You?

Waco. Our mechanic at work is an inspector, and you would be suprised what will/won't fail a truck. He went through the list with me the other day when nothing was going on and it was shocked. I would think a cracked windshield would but it won't like you said.
