Need Help

I went to start my truck today and nothing. The instrument cluster comes on, all the bells and whistles go off, fuel pump engages, and the batteries read 12 volts, but when I go to crank her.... nothing. No click, no nothing. Could it be the igntion switch? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Check the 20 amp starter relay fuse in the PDC under the hood on the drivers side. I bet its puked. Mine has done that three times this winter, and replacing it takes so little time, that as long as its doing its job by blowing, I'll wait to troubleshoot till its warm.

Batteries? Passenger side battery takes a puke and the driver side spends it's time making up for it and click! Happened on my 01 last fall. Maybe get them checked at the auto parts store. Good luck!

Check to see if you have `atleast 12 volts at your starter. your cables could be coroded keeping your starter from getting all of the volts required to start the truck.

I checked the starter soleniod 20 amp fuse and it was blown. Every time I replace it and try to crank her it blows again.

pull the starter and have it checked at the local rebuild shop. Pay close attention to the cables going to the starter look for burned areas where they might have gotten shorted out.

Change the starter contacts to the heavy duty ones and thats one chore you won't have to worry about for several miles.

Thanks. It sounds like you might have had this issue before.

Yep did the cps and about 4 weeks later had to do the starter contacts. Mine would not do anything either. Lesson learned should have checked the contacts while the starter was off doing the cps. The starters have extra tough time in the winter. Below zero temps and oil so thick that it won't run out of the jug and we expect that little starter to turn everything like it is summer. I never had the blowing fuse problem but I read it on here that some have had the hot cable rub a bare spot against the frame and cause your problems. Also have heard of the starters shorting out on the inside.

go to the top of the page and hit search, type in starter contacts and it should lead you to several pages and places to purchase them. Use one of the sponsors of this web site. It helps to keep this a free site.
