Low voltage...
Low voltage...
Starting last year when the temperature outside is below about 50 degrees and I start my truck the voltage stays low enough that the check gauges light comes on for about 30-60 seconds then the voltage comes up within the normal range. I have tried cleaning the battery contacts and have even replaced both batteries but this is still happening. Never happened before last year even when it was zero outside. I am wondering if anyone had any idea what might cause such a thing.
Thanks,
Keith

just pop the wires off of the grid heater relays ( the signal wires , not the big cables) , crank the truck up and see if the problem changes, you could have a heater shorting to ground , that would draw alot of amperage.
i've been havin the same proplem i got 2 new battries, and i had 2 regulators, 2 sets of diods and a set of brushs in in my alt.
i dunno what the deal is, it's runnin right at 12v but the guages light comes on at 11.75. it should run up around 13.5-14v. i'm gonna put another alt off a cummins on it tomorow and see if that helps. it's startin to make me mad

well after i took the whole truck to the guy that rebuilt it for the 2ed time and it not charging, we pulled the alt off his ctd and put it on my truck, and the same thing.....nothin. well come to find out the diods were burnt up which caused the fuse to blow, and after iput the rebuild alt. on it it was back feeding and burining it up. get the alt rebuilt and check the fuse and dont run bad bad battries!!!! thats what caused all my problems
