LMC Truck dash replacement

Yep, another Dodge with a caved dash. Mine started a couple years ago kind of small. Put it off as long as I could stand it.

The end came when my A/C bit the dust and the dash had to be taken out for the fix. It was so bad my dash bezel actually came apart when I pulled it off. The dash was a total loss.

Started shopping and found the new replacement offered by LMC. $247.40 to my door. I also shopped at S&K Industries. they offer a replacement dash now and claim to beat any price. ---They didn't--- I e-mailed them LMC's quote and they replied back that there was no way LMC could offer a dash at that price. They didn't reply back to me when I sent a reply back. So much for their guaranteed lowest price...

Lowest price I could find for the dash bezel was from B&D Auto (factorymoparparts.com) at $295.80.

I guess I kind of cheated. I have no idea how you're supposed to install the screws from the bottom side that snug up the vents on the dash. Maybe drop the whole dash??? Well, that would take too long. I just buttoned it up best I could. The only "loose" air duct was the one on the passenger side that defrosts the window. No big deal for me.

Also, I ordered the dark gray dash from LMC to match my agate interior. Either they sent me the wrong one or their colors aren't a perfect match. Again, no big deal for me.

My 2001. I try to take care of it:

Small crack:

BIG CRACKS!

This is how the dash came out. In pieces...

Finally, the LMC dash replacement and bezel from B&D:

wow, come assist w/my dash replacement and I'll supply the beverages! I'm so sick of mine...
I do feel my skyjunker rough ride has contributed to the dash crumbling.

If you cheat and don't drop the whole dash it isn't hard. Unhook the battery so the air bag doesn't pop, wait about 30min-1hr to let the capacitor discharge, pull the bezel, a gazillion screws for the upper dash pad, 5 bolts for the air bag along with 5 press fit connectors and 4 screws on the trim assembly, then reverse and put it all back together. With breaks and waiting for parts I may have about 2hrs in it.

5GK51DX9AA is the part number on the bezel. Depending on what Dodge dealer you speak to you'll get these responses:

"Ken, part number 5gk51dx9aa changes to 68042746aa($444.00) but my notes says
you also need 13 clips part number 6504067 ($10.69 each) and two bumpers
4731028($3.38 each). We show to have all instock but only one bumper. Thank
you and have a nice day."

Or regarding part #68042746aa:

"This part has superseded to part# 68042746AC with a correct price of $268.80"

Friggin' Dodge is as bad as Ford on superseding part numbers. And they want in your wallet! 13 aluminum clips @$10.69 each!!!! You gotta be kidding.

The clips he mentions are what holds the bezel to the dash. They can be salvaged from the old bezel with a little effort. You'll need the vents from the old bezel too. Just pry them out at their pivot point with a screwdriver. I have no idea what the bumpers are that he referred to.

Thanks for the part #s. I'm eventually going to have to get it done. I can't imagine what it looks like under my plastic 1 piece dash cover. I do have pieces falling on my floorboard now and then.

I'll second this. It's very easy to salvage what you need from the old bezel. I squeezed my clips in a little so it would be easier to remove later if needed. No rattles and I'm not scared that I'm going break the new one when working behind the radio.

I had my dash and bezel replaced by Dodge dealer in april 2010, I called dodge customer service and they offered that i pay 450 for parts and install. But back on topic, I have the agate interior also and the dash they installed was about 1 shade off original. I just put a dash mat over top to hopefully protect it better.

$169 for the little black trim piece around the gauges? Holy smokes! They know they got us by the......don't they!

That dash install looks good. Any problems or issues with the install? Holes not lining up, mods or anything out of whack like that? I've got an 02 and want to replace it but worry once I start it will balloon into this waiting on parts, modifying junk monster that will have me down for a few days or riding with no dash board.

No issues with the LMC dash. It was a direct fit. No cutting or trimming or anything. They give you new screws for the install but I used my old ones.

I agree the bezel price is high but check out my 1st post and look at what I had to pay for the mopar part. Ridiculous.

Looks really good...We don't seem to have these dash issues in Canada...Because we don't get the hot weather as way down south...Would one of those carpeted dash covers help this cracking problems??? I bought one from Geno...a while back..
