Leveling kit - Longer shocks or not
I'm getting ready to purchase a leveling kit so that i can mount 35s on my truck, and I've heard that you should replace the factory shock absorbers with longer ones when you do this. What would be the downside of retaining the stock shocks?

Is your leveling kit spacers or springs? If you are doing spacers, you won't need longer shocks. If you are doing springs, it is advisable to do the shocks, not mandatory. With the longer springs, you could conceivably extend the stock shock all the way and break it. Depends on how hard and fast you hit something.

The leveling kit is spacers, however, I went ahead and bought a pair of Skyjacker shocks. I got a great deal on them, and I felt that while I had it apart I ought to just replace the shocks while I'm at it since I have no idea how old the current ones are.

I have tried it both ways... Longer shocks made a big difference but mine were Bilsteins. Never had much good luck with ANY Skyjacker parts!
Hope you have better luck.

I have stock height shocks with spacers and they are trashed. I ordered new bilstien 5100s last night. I ran those on my old '01 with D25 springs and they worked great.
