Killer Dowel Pin Question
Killer Dowel Pin Question
I have searched around and found no definitive answer as to the latest year that the KDP was a problem in 24 valve Cummins. Some resources say through the year 2001, some say not. My truck was built in July of 1999 and has a Mexican engine block. How do I check if there might be a potential KDP problem with this engine? Thanks in advance for any responses.
They started phasing in the revised gear housing in the 98 model year. Apparently though, not every engine got the new one. I haven't seen any external markings that would prove whether it's a revised housing or not. To be sure, you need to remove the gear cover and have a look in there. The end of the pin will still be visible, but the hole in the new housing will be necked down on the outside to capture the pin inside.
i pulled my cover to check on my 02 built late 01 and there was no visable dowl pin in that location! just solid. i could see dowl pins in other areas. i heard some updated covers were not drilled all the way through to fix the problem which seems to be the case in mine
