killer dowel pin years

Just trying to confirm that my 24 valve has the kdp syndrome. I'm sure it has not been addressed by the original owner. I just wanted to confirm it's a problem with 24 valve engines also before I tear into mine to secure it.

thanks

Every '98 truck I've done had the old case. Sometime in '99 MY they switched cases, I've seen both cases on '99 trucks.

Is there a way to tell if I have the old or new case?

The case where your Injection pump and vacuum pump mount. My first took six hours, my second about two. The pin locates the case to the motor for assembly and keeps it in alignment in use. It NEEDS to be there or you will cause other problems, it NEEDS to be fixed or you can cause serious damage.

Dr, Evil are you sure about the 01 not being an issue with the KDP?
I just bought an 01 and have the front cover off. I cant find on this site a photo of a new case and an old case to compare. I have a photo of mine,,I am trying to post in my gallery but have to wait for approval... Could someone look for me in my gallery and let me know..OR where I can see old case photos and new case photos?

Thanks..

There is a shoulder on the hole, which is there to stop the pin from coming out further. You are fine! I have my own opinion regarding the 24 valve dowel pin issue, but I'll keep that to myself ... just in case I ruffle some feathers ... right, Dr.

Looks just like my NEW CASE and I have an early "99".

I got caught up the KDP frenzy last fall and checked mine. 4 hours later I discovered I was worried about nothing.

If someone says now I can sleep better my head is gonna explode!

Talking Kdp

We are going to take a pick and feel inside for the lip that should be there to retain the dowel.

Thanks for all your help,

Putting a 2001 in my 1998.5 Truck. Trying to cover all bases.
