interior questions
I ended up in a bit of a pickle and i need to buy another truck and quick.. money isnt the problem, what i have a problem with is finding a 98 5-speed 12V quad cab 4x4 with the long box. i can find a few 94-97's alot easier but what im skeptical about is the interior i prefer the interior of the 98+ much more then the 94-97. my question is if i obtained the whole interior out of a 98-newer truck would it be a simple swap over installation or would there be alot more work involved? if anyone has any experience please chime in
Well...its not just bolt and go if thats what you mean. A lot of your electrical connections are different, and even the steering column is different if I remember right...Different steering wheel almost dictates that. Plus, your 98+ interior has a pass. side airbag, which will be near impossible to use unless there is a sure-fire way to hack it into the drivers side airbag...then again thats if you can match the new airbag to the old connections, not just plugs but sensor wires. Your headliner is different, door panels are different, switches are different, seat belts are different, mounting locations are different for most of your dash...seats I don't know about, but your taking on a hefty project, with a hefty pricetag unless you can find a cheap wrecked truck. If you pull it off...do a write up, I'm sure there's a bunch of guys who'd like to attempt it.
I can comment on the seats. The difference (extended cabs only) was that Dodge put some stamped metal brackets welded to the floor for the front mounts. Rear mounts for the front seats bolt right in. Regular cabs are different as the floor has a much higher rise. I found out the hard way by trying to fit '02 seats in my truck which was a regular cab before the conversion.
I even bought the brackets last year from dodge which are now for sale. I already sold the seats.
I'd like the dash too but like is said above, I think it's major.
Door panels should be fine.
Good luck,
Jason
