Ignition Switch?
Ignition Switch?
I've had an on-again, off-again starting problem for awhile now. It's only happened 3 times in the last year, but when it happens the truck won't run. The engine starts up and then dies as soon as I let go of the key. I know the problem is that the fuel solenoid is not being held in the up position, and I've figured out the problem is electrical.
Does anyone think the problem is the ignition switch?
edit: Usually when this happens it won't stay running on the first attempt, but then on the second attempt it will keep running--that pattern has happened probably 40 times over the last year. But only 3 times have I been forced to pop the hood, get out, and stick something in between the lever arm and the fuel solenoid in order to start and keep the engine running. The next day all goes back to normal, or not as the case may be.

Intermittent electrical problems are the worst.
Switch is only $30 at Napa and easy to replace. They also sell the security bit you need.
Instructions> http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/elect/ign_switch.htm
Before replacing the switch check that no wires are pulled lose under the steering column cover.
Can also be a failing ASD relay under the hood. Swap it with the one for the A/C or ABS.
