I need a fuel sender wire diagram for a '97
I need a fuel sender wire diagram for a '97
Hey guys,
back for the next question. My fuel gauge doesn't read, since the previous owner couldn't get the sender hooked up correctly. Its not the right year sender, he thinks its of a 94 or 95. Apparently the original went bad, and they replaced it with a good used one they had laying around out of another truck. My truck has 5 or 6 wires comming out of the harness, and the sender I have only has 4. I figured if I can at least get a diagram so I can find out what each wire does, then maybe I can get the correct wires together to make it work, even if I have one or two extra. I really don't want to drop the tank and replace the sender if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Jason

All I can tell you is two wire are for the level sensor and two for the low fuel light. On the two pairs it doesn't matter which wire goes where, they are interchangeable.
The unused wires are for a fuel tank pump used on gassers.

I got a new sending unit from the dealer. I still have the wrong holder, since they wanted $440 for the correct one. Heres the thing, I know which two wires go to the fuel level sender on the tank side, but the truck has 6 wires comming out of the harness. It seams like no matter how I connect them, it either does nothing or slams over to empty. Do a couple wires need to get piggy backed together? Am I missing something here?
